Palmetto State Armory’s “NOBO12” Anti-Obama AR-15 Lower

1

I usually don’t like to get political here on ArmoryBlog, but since this is directly related to guns and because I’m a Palmetto State Armory customer I’ll pass it along. Palmetto recently debuted their new “NOBO12” AR-15 lower receivers on their Facebook page. The popular retailer made quite a name for themselves in the past year with their great prices on AR-15 uppers, lowers and accessories. They’re one of my go to online retailers for parts and ammo.

And because of that, I’m a little surprised they’d do something like this. I’m not an Obama supporter at all (or a Romney one), but I bet we can all guess who their clientele wants out of the White House. I know this product is a total gimmick, like all the Zombie products at SHOT 2012, and like all the zombie junk it will probably sell very well.

I actually think the “HOPE” and “Change” selector switch is pretty clever.

Google Shopping Censors Firearms and Ammo

3

This year seems to be the year that large corporations have started to take a stand for or against guns. Back in January the Ultimate Fighting Championship banned Gun and Ammo companies from sponsoring their fighters. Then a month later Starbucks showed their support for the Second Amendment when they announced that they would not heed calls to ban firearms in their stores.

Well it looks like another company has taken a stance on firearms, and they’re one of the biggest companies in the world. “Don’t be evil” is the informal corporate motto of the big G, A.K.A. Google. Well it looks like Google thinks that people buying and selling firearms, ammo and gun parts are doing evil, so they’ve started to restrict the listing of them within Google Shopping.

Gun: A Visual History

2

I’m not much of a reader, and when I do read it’s usually other blogs online or gun magazines. But I’m willing to give Gun: A Visual History a try, it features over 300 firearms from the last 700 years. It has a ton of high-quality images and covers everything from early flint lock pistols to modern sniper rifles.

Making The Case For Steel Cased Ammo

4

wolf-223-ammo

Posted over at the Cheaperthandirt blog, they talk about both the pros and cons of using steel cased ammo. While there are some down sides to using steel cased ammo, such as polymer coatings and dirtier powder, there’s also a few positives to using steel cased ammo. Such as cheaper cost and availability. Heck even WalMart carries steel cased Tulammo these days.

I’ve used thousands upon thousands of rounds of steel cased ammo in my Russian and American made guns, and while I’ve had a few jams, stovepipes and light strikes, I still feel steel cased ammo has its place. Would I use it for home defense? Definitely not, but for plinking at the range it’s hard to beat when you factor in the cost savings.

Do you use steel cased ammo? Comment below and let us know if you’re for or against using steel cased ammo in your weapons.

.50 Caliber Bottler Opener Review

1

50 Cal Bullet Bottle Opener
Now here’s a really cool way to crack open a cold one. From Bullets2Bandages.org, this unique bottle opener is actually made out real once fired military grade .50 Caliber BMG round. They inserted a new .50 cal bullet and cut a crown-cap bottle opener into the brass case. They go for $20, but part of the profits go towards the Travis Manion Foundation. I’ve been using the .50 cal bottle opener to crack open my favorite bottles of beer, but it will open any bottle cap with ease. So far it’s held up well, the only downside to it is that it now makes me want to own a rifle chambered in .50 BMG! One day hopefully I can.

Pistol Ice-Cube Tray

Here’s a cool way to make some ice-cubes. These pistol shaped ice-cube trays would make a great present for any gun enthusiasts, or sport them at your next BBQ.

I can’t tell what kind of pistols they are suppose to be, these generic pistols look like it’s a mix of a Beretta 92F and a 1911.

DIY Kevlar Ballistic Mask

0

In the market for a kevlar ballistic mask but don’t want to shell out the money for one? Here’s a DIY that might be of some use, of course I don’t recommend you do this.

I do think that projects like this are really interesting however. While the mask did stop a few rounds, I’m sure you’d fracture a few bones if you actually were shot in the face while wearing this. Check out the DIY at The Post Apoc Blog.

Women Will Never Be Equal To Men At The Range

1

FateOfDestinee posted a recent video about the stereotypes she runs into (and I bet many other women as well) while going to the range or gun shops.

Destinee makes some very valid points. The gun industry and shooting sports really has that “boys club” mentality, and it’s something that really needs to change.

When ever I go to the shooting range I see quite a few women, and I think it’s a good thing. We need to embrace women shooters, not exclude them or make them feel uncomfortable. I totally agree with Destinee on this one.
