Here’s a pretty interesting video from the New York Times about spiked ammo being used in the Syrian Civil War. It even talks about different times in military history when rifle ammo, mortars and shells were purposely spiked and circulated in the opposing forces supply lines to cause havoc. It’s pretty interesting.

Magpul Admits They Messed Up First Batch of Glock Mags

magpul-glock-mags

Magpul announced their new Glock mags earlier this year, now that they’re out there’s been a hangup with their first batch. You have to give it to Magpul though, they owned up to it and they’re trying to fix it ASAP. Their CEO posted the following response on their Facebook page.

OK we screwed up.

After initial release of the Glock PMAG 17 GL9 a few days ago we started seeing random issues of failure to feed with the new magazine in other Glock models, primarily the Glock 19 and 26. Of all the challenges of building a Glock magazine with a single new composite, issues like drop free, impact strength and feed lip retention were foremost on our mind. The failure to feed came as a bit of a surprise to us and we immediately headed out to the range to investigate.

In short order we found the problem. Without getting into technical details, some small, but critical geometry changes did not make it into the initial production molds. We should have caught this but no failures showed up on our factory guns during live fire testing and flaws in our internal processes of checks/balances did not flag the oversight as it should.

So as I said before, we screwed up and here is what we are going to do about it.
Molds are being updated with the correct geometry as we speak and a replacement magazine body with the correct geometry should be available by May 4th, 2015. These will be date coded 5/15 or later and will replace any magazine bodies in service of earlier manufacture. Just use your existing spring, follower, and floor plate with the new body.

-If you purchased your magazines direct from Magpul, Brownells or Midway, you do not need to do anything, replacement magazine bodies for the magazines ordered (1 for 1) will be shipped to you automatically.
-If you purchased your magazines from a gun store, replacement bodies will be sent out to the store in question for you to pick up.
-If neither of the above works for you then Magpul customer service will handle the replacement directly.
In short, we are updating ALL of the affected magazines released as quick as we possibly can.

Taurus PT 24/7 Shake to Shoot Malfunction

1

Gun malfunctions can be pretty scary. Here’s one that definitely is, in the video below you can see that this Taurus PT 24/7 fires on its own simply by shaking it. What’s even scarier is this pistol is issued to various police departments in Brazil.

At least they have an excuse for their police shootings. Too soon, sorry. Speaking of police in Brazil check out our past Guns of BOPE post.

Krinkov Style Muzzle Device For the AR15

krinkov-brake

If you’ve fired a short barrel or pistol AK47 or AR15 then you know how much of a concussion and fireball they produce. A popular brake for SBR and pistol AKs is the Krinkov style brakes, seen here. They’re a multi-piece muzzle device that helps redirect the muzzle blast forward and away from the shooter. Well now they’re available for the AR15s.

You can find them pretty cheap too, they go for just $25 shipped on Amazon.

Keychain Slingshot Kickstarter

Checkout these pocket slingshot frames over on Kickstarter. Created by Chris and Sarah Schnelle, these little sling shots are pretty sweet, they’re also made to attach to your keychain. They’re made out of either 17-4PH stainless steel or Grade 5 Titanium-6Al-4V and can support up to a 25lb draw weight. A minimum pledge of $19 is needed to get one. I’m not big on carrying a lot of stuff in my pockets, I’m the opposite of what you see in those tactical pocket dump pictures, but I can probably make room for one of these bad boys.
