Ruger Temporarily Stops Accepting Firearms Orders

Times are definitely not tough at Sturm, Ruger & Company. They recently announced that during the first quarter of 2012 they received orders for more than one million firearms. Because of this first world problem, they’ve decided to temporarily suspend new firearms orders. Ruger’s stock (RGR) has benefited greatly because of the news, it’s risen by 115% since last year and is at its 52-week high. It’s good to see an American company making their products right here in the USA do so well, I just hope that doesn’t mean their prices will rise because of the news, I’ve had my eye on a new Ruger SR22 pistol.

From Ruger’s press release:

– Chief Executive Officer Michael O. Fifer made the following comments:

– The Company’s Retailer Programs that were offered from January 1, 2012 through February 29, 2012 were very successful and generated significant orders from retailers to independent wholesale distributors for Ruger firearms.
– Year-to-date, the independent wholesale distributors placed orders with the Company for more than one million Ruger firearms.
– Despite the Company’s continuing successful efforts to increase production rates, the incoming order rate exceeds our capacity to rapidly fulfill these orders. Consequently, the Company has temporarily suspended the acceptance of new orders.
– The Company expects to resume the normal acceptance of orders by the end of May 2012.

From Rifle Gear’s Facebook page, it looks like Chris Costa got himself a new AR-15. He would probably still outshoot most people in the world even with a pink Hello Kitty AR.

The Mossberg 590A1 in Action

Mossberg 590A1

I’m a big fan of the Mossberg 590A1 and the 500 line in general. My first shotgun was a Mossberg 590 (not the A1 unfortunately), and it’s been my home defense gun of choice ever since. Tnoutdoors9 put together this awesome montage of the Mossberg 590A1 in action, check it out!

AR-15 Barrel Kaboom

It seems like there have been a lot of guns experiencing catastrophic failures (a.ka.a kabooms) recently, or maybe people are just posting about it online lately. A member over at M4Carbine.net recently posted about a Daniel Defense range rifle’s barrel splitting. Apparently the customer who was shooting the range rifle was using factory new HPR .223 ammo (not reloads like most kabooms) and luckily only received minor wounds. Looks like it could have been a squib.

Low Recoil 7.62x54R Ammo For Your Mosin Nagant

The Mosin Nagant is a really popular surplus rifle for its low price and affordable ammo. But 7.62x54R is no joke, it kicks. After a day at the range with the old Russian WWII workhorse my shoulder is usually pretty bruised up.

I stumbled upon some low recoil 7.62x54R over at SGAmmo, I haven’t given it a try yet but from the video below it looks like a perfect way to get some range time in without needing to ice my shoulder afterwards. According to SGammo it feels similar to shooting .22 magnum and is about 3200 FPS at the muzzle yet still pretty accurate up to 200 yards. At $30 for 108 rounds it’s not as cheap as surplus spam can ammo, but it won’t break the bank, or your shoulder.

A Shotgun Under the Hood

This was posted on Reddit, I’m guessing this isn’t legal, I just wonder what this guy is going to use this for. I sure would like one when someone cuts me off though.

Suppressed Lever Action Rifle

We’ve posted about custom and “tactical” lever action rifles before. There was the Mossberg 464 SPX Tactical from the 2012 SHOT Show, and this custom Magpul’d Marlin, as well as a silenced Marlin 1894.

This beauty is probably my favorite of the bunch, it was posted over at Primary Weapon Systems Facebook page. It’s also a Marlin 1894c in .357 Magnum but with a shortened 10.5″ barrel and tube, XS sight Rail, Burris Fast Fire optic, Gemtech 9mm Suppressor and 3″ cut off the stock.

Glock Baby

This baby has better trigger discipline than lot’s of gun owners I’ve seen at the range, his (or her?) parents must be proud!

Thanks to Jen for emailing me the pic.

Jmeck Mosin Nagant Scope Mounts

The Mosin Nagant is a great budget rifle, they’re rugged, reliable, and really affordable. Lots of people scope their Mosin rifles for hunting and range use, but that usually takes drilling and tapping the receiver or using one of the various long eye relief kits on the market. If long eye relief mounts aren’t your thing, and if you don’t want to go through the hassle of drilling into your receiver the folks at jmeckscopemounts.com have put together a pretty innovative new way to scope your Mosin Nagant.
