YouTube is owned by Google, and we all know how Google feels about guns. Back in 2012 they purged all firearms and ammo from Google Shopping, we also posted our Alternatives To Google For Guns & Ammo Shopping guide to help our readers still find the best deals online.
Google has taken it further in the past year or so, first by demonetizing most YouTube gun channels. Including our small YouTube channel. While we don’t rely on YouTube for traffic, views and income to keep the lights on, many in the Gun industry do. YouTube is a very powerful marketing tool and Google knows this, so by demonetizing they’ll be hurting many channel owners and companies by removing a source of income and traffic.
Recently YouTube has been penalizing and removing gun channels, so in response many channels have been moving to PornHub. Seriously, they are.
In response to these steps taken by Google/YouTube a few alternatives to YouTube have popped up. Below are a few of those alternatives.
Full30
Full30.com has actually been around for a while and it’s probably the most popular YouTube alternative on this list. Originally only the big channels were accepted to post their content on the site but it looks like Full30 is allowing smaller and up and coming channels reserve a spot.
Full30 is easy to use and the video quality seems to be pretty good without much lag at all. The comments section on the videos are also not a cluttered mess like you see on YouTube which is a huge plus.
GunStreamer
Next up on our list is a pretty new site called GunStreamer.com. The site seems to be open to anyone who wants to create a channel and upload to the site which is great for smaller channels like ours. GunStreamer seems to work pretty well too. The layout and feel of the site looks very close to YouTube but with a green color scheme vs YouTube’s red.
Even the share, embed and subscribe buttons look just like YouTube’s. This isn’t a bad thing, in fact it would make switching from YouTube to GunStreamer pretty easy from a user interface perspective.
GunVideo
GunVideo.com is a new venture by Lenny Magill, the owner of GlockStore.com. So far the site isn’t completed and only the GlockStore’s videos will be on the site but they’re planning on opening it up to other content creators soon.
Recoil TV
The popular print and online mag Recoil just released Recoil TV. They currently have their own content uploaded as well a content from a few other large YouTube channels.
YouTube is a giant when it comes to watching videos online and I doubt anyone will knock them off the top spot anytime soon. However for us gun enthusiasts we don’t have much choice but to look elsewhere for content now that YouTube has taken their stance against firearms. Server and admin cost isn’t cheap when it comes to hosting videos. But no matter which alternative becomes the go to for gun reviews, how-tos and tutorials, I’m just glad the above companies have stepped up and offered us a choice.
Did I miss any sites? If so let me know in the comments below.
Don’t forget about D-Tube: https://d.tube/
D-tube is based upon the worlds most used blockchain (steem). You get paid for views and “likes”/votes in Steem which can be transferred to various exchanges and sold as USD/CAD/etc.
Ray, thanks for sharing this article. Not sure if you saw my email yet but I just sent you one talking about this! Thanks again for keeping us informed.
