Sig Sauer P365 Review
The first time we got to handle the Sig Sauer P365 at the 2018 SHOT Show

Reliability, conceal-ability, comfort and capacity. These are the main things that I look for in an every day carry gun. Everyone has different tastes when it comes to what’s comfortable for them and what they prefer to carry. When I saw the Sig Sauer P365 I felt like this gun could very possibly hit all the marks I look for in a carry gun.

Out of the box the gun felt great. It came with two factory ten round magazines and factory X-Ray night sights. The night sights seemed to be very high quality when I checked them and the fit and finish of the gun seemed great. I was also a big fan of the grip on this gun. Just enough texture without over doing it. Everything about the gun checked out and I could not visibly see any factory defects. About ten minutes later out the door I went, ready for the next range trip.

The night sights on the Sig Sauer P365

The first 300 rounds through this gun went flawlessly. I used every type of ammo from cheap re-man stuff to high end hollow-points and it cycled everything that I threw at it. I was very pleased with the accuracy as well. At ten yards I was shooting nice 2 to 3 inch groups, not bad for a sub-compact. The gun is a little snappy but nothing that is not easily controllable. That is to be expected from such a small frame, no surprises there. The trigger was crisp and smooth with a very nice reset and predictable break point. Needless to say I was pretty happy so far with my purchase. Now it was time to go home and disassemble.

This is where I start to become a little disappointed in my new toy. After taking the gun apart and going through my cleaning ritual, I noticed scratches on the back of my brand new magazines (including the 12 round one I bought). Apparently this is an issue from a bad cut on the trigger return spring that scrapes the magazine when going in and out of the magazine well. I was a little disappointed by this but nothing to make me throw this gun under the bus by any means. Aside from that, the dis-assembly was very simple and not having to dry fire to disassemble is something that Sig definitely did right on this one.

Next range trip, after about another 150 rounds, I started to notice that at the end of a magazine the slide would not stay locked open. I was definitely not a fan of this. After some research I found that many people are having this issue that have a high stacked thumb grip. This is a big strike for me, I don’t want to have to change my grip to conform to a firearm when all of my other firearms function great with how I grip the gun. I know this is something that may not be a factor for everyone but I definitely wanted to let it be known.

I really want to love this gun but with all the issues that I’m seeing other people encounter with trigger failure and broken strikers on top of the smaller things I’ve experienced, I can’t love it just yet. I think that Sig is definitely on the right path here but they need to double check quality control on this one. This gun has the potential to be great but there’s still some bugs that need to be worked out. I can honestly say that I never had a failure to fire or eject. I can also honestly say that it never jammed as well. But that does not change the fact that I had some issues with it that never should have gotten past initial product testing.

Comfort- 5 out of 5
Conceal-ability – 5 out of 5
Accuracy – 4 out of 5
Reliability – 2.5 out of 5 (I cant ignore the documented issues others are having)
Appearance – 4 out of 5

  1. I had the same issues as you, other than that tho it’s been a great gun. I just wish Sig Sauer would have made sure these guns ran smoothly from the factory.

  2. Sucks about the issues you’re having, these seem like good little CCW pistols. Hopefully Sig irons out the problems soon.
