It’s remarkable how a simple yet effective piece of engineering can stand the test of time. The 1911 pistol designed by legendary gun designer John Moses Browning turned 100 years old this year, and it’s still going on strong. The 1911 is still used by police departments and militaries around the world, and is one of the most popular firearm designs in the civilian market. The newspaper clipping from the Pittsburgh Post Gazette dated April 13, 1911 that announced the Army’s adoption of the 1911 really puts  into perspective just how long the 1911 has been in service.
