I generally think of myself as a fairly open minded person. I like fresh ideas and innovation. Its great when companies really shoot for the moon and try to bring about game changing products. It really keeps things interesting, especially in the firearms industry, when companies are constantly trying to produce “the next best thing”. Unfortunately, some of the time these companies fall short, very short in this instance. Personally, I refuse to put my life in the hands of something that falls so short in every possible way.

The Urban Carry G2 holster is a product I really wanted to get excited about. I am a lover of deep concealment and the idea of having a holster that comfortably conceals a firearm no matter what type of clothing you may be wearing. But finding a perfect all around holster is almost as difficult as convincing your wife that a fourth AR is completely necessary for home defense. It’s not impossible, just difficult.

Out of the bag, the holster smelled great. You can definitely tell that they at least use a high quality leather when manufacturing this holster. Unfortunately, that will be the last time in this review you see the words great or high quality. Upon initial inspection I found that the holster was somewhat confusing on how it is supposed to work. After a few minutes of playing with it I figured it out. I can honestly say I have never had to “figure out” how a holster is supposed to work. That was strike number one for me.

When trying the holster on I found it very difficult to actually put a gun in the holster and get it inside of my waistband. I wasn’t using a full size gun by any means either. I switched back and forth between a Glock 43 and a Sig P365. I could see this turning into an even bigger hassle had I tried with my Glock 19 or Smith and Wesson M&P. Another thing that I really hated about this holster is that there is essentially no trigger guard. I have honestly not felt comfortable putting a gun in the holster with a round in the chamber. Anyone that knows me at all knows there is always one in the pipe on any gun I’m carrying.

Drawing from the Urban Carry G2 Holster

After I unbuckled my belt and unbuttoned my jeans I was able to secure the holster to my belt and button myself back up. And when I say secure, I mean very secure. So secure that when I attempted to draw the Glock 43, it took both hands ripping up on the holster and some unpleasant sounds prompting my fiancee to ask if I was alright before I could access the gun as you’re supposed to. I tried drawing a few more times until I got physically tired of ripping on this thing and nearly punching myself in the face. I think the worst part was on the last draw I actually ripped the whole holster out of my pants and almost gave myself a black eye with it. That was absolutely strike number two.

Printing from the Urban Carry G2 Holster

When I looked in the mirror to check how concealing this holster actually was I was really surprised! I never thought in a million years that a holster could print as bad as this one does. I was literally shocked. I showed Amy (my fiancee) and she got really excited as well, until she realized it was just a holster. I honestly think that I could conceal full size 1911 in an OWB holster with no shirt on better than the Urban Carry G2 with a Derringer in it. Definitely strike number three. There’s only one way this holster could ever be beneficial. That’s by a lonely man going to singles night and stuffing a Glock 17 in an Urban Carry G2.

I’d love to give you a better review of this thing but to be completely honest, I refuse to actually wear this holster. If any of you know my luck, I would end up needing to draw in a hurry while wearing it. I have found the best thing about this holster is that the magnet is strong enough to hand on the refrigerator. This is very convenient for holding various things, just not a gun. I cant bring myself to give this holster the benefit of the doubt. On a scale of 1 to 10 I give this holster a 1.1 only because I like the smell of leather.

  1. You’re wearing it wrong. That leather behind the clip is supposed to be inside your pants. When you lift the flap all you should see is the clip. I did the same thing at first. It will draw better when you wear the holster correctly. Also works much better when the leather has broken in after a few days. Hard to catch a ball on the first day of using your new baseball mitt, this leather works the same day, like you said its good quality. Mine took a few days to get used to but been using it a year now. Tried 14 other holsters. Wouldn’t use anything else, absolutely love it. Incredibly comfortable and like any other CCW holster if you’re wearing the right kind of pants it’s perfect and totally conceals my G19 or my Shield. Love the Bourbon idea!
